For this group of pictures, I went to Broadway, Downtown New Haven. I tried too focused on different shapes and lines, buildings and styles. The two indoor pictures were taken in urban outfitters and I thought they would fit with my theme.
The Urban Outfitters shots are the strongest ones of the series as you were thinking more abstractly... about how line and light work together to create a composition. That is the main intent of this assignment. Where an image shows us the whole object, it is less strong for the purposes of this project. Pictures of a building from a distance fall into this category of showing us the whole object or "taking a picture of a building" rather than using the building for it's geometry and ability to modulate light. See how the rhythm of the wood on the steel wall or the curve of the stairs and the repetition of the lines is more like visual music... and the images that take a picture of the whole object are just that, just a picture of a building or of someone else's sculpture?
