Bushnell Park Pond

With my engine being blown I still haven’t made it to the beach not one time this summer . But I did make it to the Bushnell to take these pictures of the water . As I explained in my previous post I’m posting late due to tragedy . I hope you guys enjoy these pictures I had fun capturing with my children.

  1. No need to get down to Long Island sound for this assignment… Getting you out into nature and in front of water was the main issue. I'm interested in how you're looking at reflections and movement and getting in close to find interesting design and organic form rather than geometric built form.

In the ideal world I would've wanted you to have edited these in Photoshop… It gives you far more control than pressing a filter button on a phone app. The goal of good editing is to emphasize the focal point and lead the viewer's eye where you want it with intention rather than how the app may randomly do it. One pet peeve of mine is where there's a horizon line, rotate the image so that it's parallel to the edge of the frame… That shows another level of intentionality.

So starting from the top, what's interesting about this image is what's reflected in the water. A better edit would have you darkening the top edge and the bottom edge and emphasizing the light at the focal point.

In picture number two here's a case where I would want to rotate the image and emphasize again the reflection in the water.

In number five although this is an extreme filter that's been added, I kind of like it… It looks like an ink photo etching and it has been abstracted to the point of being pretty interesting.

    Keep shooting!
